History Of The Bell E-mail

The bell at Chartridge - barIn 1862 The Bell Pubic House was licenced as an ale house for the first time. The brewery supplying the ale at the time was Wellers an historic Amersham Brewery famed for their strong ale "Wellers Entire" a porter so strong that it was said that a man could not drink three pints and remain standing.

Across the road from The Bell was a The Portobello Arms (now a private house) named to commemorate the famous victory of Admiral Vernon Dagenham who, in 1739, captured Porto Bello in Panama with only six ships.

Today The Bell serves both ales and spirits alongside a fine selection of wines and good home cooked food.
